Baku building collapse: rescuers hear voices under rubble

Published: 29 August, 2007, 21:24

Emergency workers in the Azeri capital Baku are desperately trying to reach people still trapped beneath the rubble of a collapsed building. Rescuers say voices can still be heard from the debris of the 16-storey block, which collapsed on Tuesday killing

Police have cordoned off the site.

The building collapsed while it was still under construction.  The building firm in charge says 26 workers were on the site at the time of the collapse.  Other sources suggest as many as 60 people could have been there.

A criminal case has been launched into the accident and four company employees have been arrested
