A multi-storey building has collapsed in the centre of the Azeri capital Baku, killing at least five people and trapping dozens more under the debris, according to local news agencies.

A major rescue operation is under way and police have evacuated people from the building next door.

Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General in has all but ruled out terrorism, saying building violations are the most likely cause of the collapse.

Baku is no stranger to buildings falling down, and has seen several collapses in recent years.
