Direct Iran-U.S. talks possible: Iranian FM

Published: 08 May, 2007, 08:17

Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says talks with the U.S. on Iraqi issue could be possible in the future. Mr Mottaki and the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice informally crossed paths at the Conference in Egypt last week.

Afterwards Condoleezza Rice, said if she had the chance she would have met with Mr Mottaki for separate talks.

Any meeting between the two top officials would be the first high level talks since Washington broke diplomatic relations with Tehran in 1979, after Iranian students held 52 U.S. citizens hostage.
