Duma approves new legislation on copyright protection

The State Duma has approved the part of the Civil Code which deals with authors' rights. The paper defines the kinds of intellectual property to be protected in fields such as art, literature, brand names and more.
The Duma deputies passed new legislation dealing with copyright protection. It was passed in the third final reading today. The paper will increase the maximum prison term for copyright violations from 5 to 6 years. It is an important legal change as it would make copyright violations a much more serious offence.
