7.5 quake hits west of Alaska coast, tsunami warning lifted

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake, followed by two aftershocks, has struck the western coast of Alaska. The magnitude was later downgraded to 7.5. The regional tsunami warning has been lifted.

Craig, Alaska, is the city nearest to the epicenter of the quake, the US Geological Survey reported.

The tremor occurred at a depth of 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) at 8:58am GMT, and was followed by two aftershocks measuring 4.7 and 4.5, respectively.

Port Alexander, Alaska, has seen a 6-inch (15.2-cm) rise in sea level, while the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center has predicted significant widespread inundation of land.

Local residents wrote on Twitter that they have received alerts to evacuate the beaches.

No casualties or damages have been reported.

The regional tsunami warning for parts of the Alaskan coast near the quake's epicenter has been lifted.

Dumb est? Well, US paid for the land that one might say was their due to geographical location and other reasons. Russia never seriously considered that land as a Russian territory, she had no intention to protect that land or do anything else besides maybe the trade for furs with local people. So why don't sell US's land to US, let the US build roads etc, and this will only help the Russian trade. As for the resources, nobody knew about any resources at the moment, and Russia has enough of them anyway. The fact is that Russia is still a net exporter of energy resources (oil etc), and US is a net importer.

> Try to stop U.S. companies from drilling for oil, and prepare to have the USN and Alaska-based USAF (F-22s) sink every ship and offshore oil rig you have out there. Then, we will annex the ENTIRE Artic. You will just stand there watching mouths agape and powerless as we take it ALL! Unless you want some real trouble, Don't Tread On Us!

I heard you have a lot of gases in US, so that you are even going to export it soon, then why do you need the oil somewhere far from your land and deep under the water?

Anyway , looks like you are really afraid... Though you won't have a lot of chances to use your F-22 in case of a military conflict with Russia, if only you don't want your pilots to make some nice photos of the nuclear warheads entering the US airspace. It's not going to be the same as using you jets against the unarmed civilians all over the world as you used to...
