Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has named a British MI6 agent who it says attempted to recruit a Russian. In June security officer Vyacheslav Zharko publicly testified that he was approached by a recruiter from British intelligence, who the FSB sa

In the 1990s he worked reportedly undercover at the British Embassy in Estonia.

The alleged MI6 operative has appeared in several cases involving high-ranking Russian Army personnel. He acted as handler for a colonel who was sentenced to 13 years in prison for spying for the UK.

Relations between Russia and the UK have been soured by spy scandals since the early 20th century.

Most recently both countries expelled four of each other's diplomats after Moscow's refusal to extradite a man charged with the murder of former security officer Aleksandr Litvinenko in London.
