Hamas threatens to use force against Johnston’s abductors

Published: 19 June, 2007, 00:25

A deadline issued by Hamas to the kidnappers of Alan Johnston for his release has expired. It is not yet clear from Hamas if they have heard from the BBC journalist's abductors.

However, they previously warned that if they did not get a response by midnight local time they would use all means necessary to secure Johnston's release.

Johnston is being held by an obscure militant group and has been in captivity for three months.

Hamas condemned his kidnapping from the outset and has stated that journalists should be treated as guests.
