Man dies in police-militant clashes in Colombia

Published: 09 February, 2007, 07:37

At least one man died after clashes between Colombia's National Police and the National Liberation Army movement. The fighting took place in the city of Huesito.

Over 500 police invaded the area, which has been controlled by the militants for decades.

The movement, which was created in the 1960s by a group of students inspired by Fidel Castro's revolution in Cuba, has been holding peace talks with the government for almost a year.

The next round is scheduled for the end of February.
