Politkovskaya case: suspect's arrest - illegal

The Moscow district military court has ruled the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murder of Anna Politkovskaya to be illegal. The Lieutenant-?olonel of the Moscow branch of the Security Service, Pavel Ryaguzov, was among ten people suspected of

The court accepted that the grounds for the suspect to be charged were insufficient.

Anna Politkovskaya was a Russian journalist known for her investigations into human rights abuses in Chechnya and cases of corruption among officials.

She was shot dead in October last year. In August this year ten people were detained over the case.

The Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika alleged the suspects were the organisers and perpetrators of the crime along with accomplices.
