Published: 07 November, 2006, 10:05

According to the Central Election Committee oh that Central Asian state, Immomali Rakhmonov has won the presidential elections by large majority – coming to power for a third term of 7 years.

Official results showed Rakhmonov received over 79 per cent of the votes, which looks rather modest compared to his 1999 result of 97 per cent.

The opposition boycotted the election saying  it was “obviously illegal”.

Over 700 international observers attended the elections and are yet to express their opinion whether the voting was held according to democratic standards.
