The Spanish King, Juan Carlos I, is to meet President Medvedev during a visit to Moscow on Thursday, with Russia’s relationship with both Spain and the European Union the main focus of talks.
It is the pair's first meeting since Medvedev took office.
The monarch also plans to take part in cultural events.
The last time the Spanish monarch was in Russia was on a private visit in August 2006, when he met Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
In 2007, Spain and Russia marked the 30th anniversary of restoring diplomatic relations.
