A German military satellite has entered its target orbit after being launched from Russia's Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arhangelsk region.

It is the third of five scheduled launches under a contract signed between Russian and German companies.

Previous launches were carried out in December of 2006 and July of this year.

The group of five satellites is planned to operate at full capacity in early 2009.
