A Russian businessman has appeared in court in Cambodia on charges of sexually abusing young girls.
The Russian Consul in Cambodia Timur Zevakhin told RT that Aleksandr Trofimov was arrested in October last year.
“This was his first court hearing. Sentencing will take place on Friday. He's accused of sexually abusing young girls. The court this morning heard only one charge. The other girls, of which there are more than 10, lived in a different town, and there will be separate hearings for them,” Zevakhin said.
41-year-old Trofimov, who's accused of abusing a 14-year-old girl, denies the charges.
If found guilty, he could face up to 20 years in prison.
According to Cambodian media, Trofimov is suspected of abusing almost 20 underage girls.
