Saddam trial set for closing arguments

Violence continued as closing arguments were due in Saddam Hussein’s trial. At least 42 were killed by Shia militants at fake checkpoints in Baghdad’s Jihad district. Shia gunmen stopped cars, identified Sunni Arabs and shot them.
Two car bombs exploded simultaneously on Sunday near a Shiite mosque, killing 19 and wounding 59, police said. Radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr appealed for emergency parliament sessions to address the bloodshed.
