UN aid appeal targets $150 million

As humanitarian aid reached Lebanon, the United Nations appealed for $150 million to help victims of the conflict.

The target was announced by the organisation’s top emergency relief co-ordinator, Jan Egeland, on a visit to Beirut. The money is asked for to meet the needs of 800,000 people for three months, paying for food, health care, water and sanitation.  The European Union asked for medicines, fire-fighting equipment and shelter materials.
