The dispute over Iran's nuclear activities, which Western countries fear are aimed at creating weapons, might result in a military conflict, Russia's security chief Nikolay Patrushev said on Tuesday.

He also claimed that the fact that Iran began to produce 20 per cent-enriched uranium created doubts about its peaceful intentions.

Patrushev said that everything has its limits, including patience, adding “We are still interested in dialogue, in receiving an explanation of what is going on, but it is not always taking place."

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Iran's decision to enrich uranium independently contradicts resolutions and adds doubts about Tehran's sincerity.

Iran has not provided Russia with full information about its enrichment plans. Iran's chief nuclear negotiator did not come to a meeting with Russia's security chief, which was to take place before Iranian announcement.

Tehran informed the UN nuclear watchdog on Monday about its plans to start enriching uranium to 20 per cent on its own.

Production of higher-enriched uranium started on Tuesday at 13:00 local time [09:30 GMT] .

Tehran insists its nuclear program is for civilian power generation.

The Iranians have all right to possess a NUCLEAR WEAPONS to defend themself againist the constant threat that they have been facing from Israel and USA. the iranian neighbors in the region such as Indian, Pakistan and Israel do have the nuclear weapons these three countries will never engage in conflict becous both have nuclear weapon to defend. The Israel have commited a constant agression aganist his neighbor such as Palestine (i.e.GAZA), Libanon, Syria and so on, killing the childreen, destruction of the infrastructure, humiliations, denying basic right of freedom and development in the Middle East. The Russian Federation should not support the sanction against Iran neither have a fear of deployment of the USA anti-missile in Poland and Chezech Republic nor abdicate his cooperation with Iran. Why USA want to poceed with his imperialism dominatiion without regarding the interest of soberane of other countris. Now the civil society should stand firm against the imperialism and domination.

Paul, Iraq had WMD as was noted by every nation of the world --check the records. It was Russia that hauled them out before the war and burried them in Syria---they will turn up one day, buried in the deserts of Syria. As for the US wanting to start a war with Iran, if it were necessary, the war would come, but hopefully the people of Iran will rise up and take over before war is necessary.

It is highly unlikely that there will be any kind of major military conflict with Iran anytime in the near future. Perhaps a little saber rattle here and there will occur, but nothing serious will result. It is not in Iran's interest to push this thing that far.
