Putin’s decision to lead Russia’s main political party has put the country’s power structures in the spotlight. Analyst and journalist Aleksey Pushkov attempts to untangle the issues.
“I don’t think that Russia will move to becoming a parliamentary republic but what may happen is that Russia may become a sort of presidential parliamentary republic. Vladimir Putin has said many times that Russia is a huge country which needs a consolidated presidential rule. So I don’t think that Russia will become a parliamentary republic, but the role of the Prime Minister and the Parliament will be enhanced,” Aleksey Pushkov said.
