George Friedman from political intelligence analysts Stratfor said the U.S. will use the South Ossetian conflict as proof that a missile defence system is needed in Europe.
“There is more to [the US-Czech-Polish missile deal] than simply the agreement to place missiles there. The U.S. has also said that it will place troops there to protect the missiles. What the U.S. is telling Russia is that it understands that in the event of a Russian attack on Georgia the only response that there can be will be military. The Russians took the Americans by surprise in Georgia. The Americans do not intend to be surprised elsewhere,” said Friedman.
