North Korea will stop its nuclear tests as soon as they return to the negotiating table, believes Georgy Toloraya, Research Director on Korea at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Pyongyang claims it is open to new dialogue to resolve tensions over its atomic weapons programme, but the country’s Foreign Ministry has made it clear that it will not return to Six-Party Talks aimed at ending its nuclear ambitions.

North Korea quit the multi-lateral talks, which included Russia and the US, after the United Nations imposed tough sanctions following the state’s nuclear and missile tests.

Pyongyang says the penalties violate its sovereignty. It also warned those supporting the sanctions “will not help to ease existing tension”.

North Korea has yet to elaborate on what form any new dialogue might take.

The US has continually reneged on deals for aid to NK, demonstrating as always that it can't be trusted. However, this is not the point. The point is, that given that the US has recently shown its true colors, towards Russia, it may be that we should now start to modify our position with regard to NK. Considering their geographic position and that the US is agitating Japan against Russia, then a nuclear armed NK, could offer a counterweight to Japan and SK. China and Russia are not really that worried about a nuclear armed NK. Russia could even ease the food and other shortages there and restart their economy with trade. It is plain to see that an equitable relationship with the US is looking less and less likely. Therefore, Russia needs to be careful, and make sure it does not turn down valuable strategic opportunities. Otherwise it can find itself walking to the US, away from cover, and then being executed. Creating an ally who could inflict nuclear damage on your adversary, may not be a bad thing after all. Especially if you have a close working relationship with them.

No they wont. How many times has this happened in the past? The USA, mortal enemies in their eyes, has for years given them massive food and oil aid on the slim promise that they stop their nuke program. What enemy does that? Thats far more then the USA gave Russia after we met in Iceland. These missile launches are dry runs. You cant update your firing proceedures for new weapons systems if you dont do dry runs. Will China help? No they need NK as a buffer between them and S.K. China sends back NK refugees to certain death. Will Russia scold them for staving their own people while diverting food to politicians and the military? I think not but Russia will sell them old SCUD parts to help with their missile technology. Will the worthless UN do anything but talk? The way i see it is that NK is far closer to Berlin and Moscow then DC. If they attack S.K we will destroy them and you will have many more NATO troops in your back yard then the few that were in Georgia. If they fire a nuke at the USA we will nuke them back and the fall out will drift across China and Russia. So I say let those two countries deal with NK. Then again NK is a ready thorn in the Wests side that other countries are all too good at exploiting. So while US and Russian politicans claim conspiracies against each other, it will be the People that suffer as usual and that madman on Europes doorstep will have thermonuclear weapons.
