Count Cash:  your argument maks my point.  The tax police came in to Hermigate, confiscated the corporate books, stamps, and seals, and then the fraud was committed.  Later, the Hermitage officers found out about it and brought the crime to the attention of the Russian Government.  The Hermitage officers NOTIFIED the Russian authorities about the fraud.  The Hermitage officers and Magnitsky, as its lawyer, ASKED FOR an investigation.  Unfortunately, the realized too late that the Russian authorities  were also he criminals. When the burden of proof was on the officers and Magnitsky, the officers and Magnitsky tried to meet their burden by providing evidence and the  authorities refused to accept the evidence.  Instead, the authorities tr ied to bury it.  Much of the evidence that appears on these videos was collected and given the authorities be fore Magnitsky was killed.  It was only after the Russian authorities ignored it to cover up their crime that it was put into the videos.  There is a lot of evidence.  It's not just a piece here and a piece there. Much of it is public record.  The Russian investigato rs don't need for anyone to bring them documents.  If they wanted to, they could easily confirm them or prove them false. Finally, you write "As the Russian government has said many times, bring the documents to us, make the case,"   These videos make the case.  They tell the Russian authorities what the documents are and where they were found.  As noted above, the Russian investigators can easily reach out and look at them.  Next, you write "the failure to do this is the greatest persuasive argument of all, that there is nothing that would stand up to the rigour of examination in court."   That is the core of the problem.    The credibility of the Russian judicial system is zero.   There is no objective "rigour of examination in court" when it comes to misbehavior by government officials or government efforts to silience critics.   There is only intimidation, obfuscation, cover ups and bias in favor of the government.  If there had been any "rigour of examination" when Hermitage initiated the investigation, then the current problem would not exist.   Russia has a choice: make the hard decision to end government corruption or face eternal doubt about the legitimacy of its governmental institutions.
