Russia and China are strategic partners rather than competitors, says Ekaterina Koldunova, a scholar of Asian and African Studies at the Moscow State University of International Relations.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing has led to the signing of a number of significant deals between the two countries, which shows that they are eager to form a powerful alliance.

“Current trade deals should be seen in the light of them corresponding to the vision of strategic partnership,” Koldunova said.

“Mutual trade has been significantly influenced by the world financial crisis and the current trade deals could improve the situation,” she added.

There will come a day when Americans will ask themselves why they did not establish an alliance with Russia. With Russia and China in an alliance, the USA will have an impossible task to control the Euroasian continent.

Yes, China like all our colleagues in BRIC need to be strategic partners for Russia, so that they can from a stable Hub for other countries to join on an equitable basis. There is only a matter of time before a military commitment appears. That has to be grown in steps with a mutual protection and aid agreement, uniting first Russia and China then India. No Block should be contemplated, just free trade and mutual security guarantees. Such arrangements would drive BRIC and the free world into the driving seat and bring some legal principles back to the world.
