Western-style juvenile justice not for Russians - poll

A majority of Russians said they are against the practice, common in western countries, of empowering special agencies with the ability to remove children from their parents for various reasons.

Russia has been working on introducing a juvenile justice system since it signed up to the European Social Charter in 2000.

The initiative, however, is opposed by many Russian conservative groups, not least of all the Russian Orthodox Church, which has called it an "alien western practice damaging family values.”

Meanwhile, in a recent poll, seventy-six percent of the respondents said “parents and the family” should play the primary role in defending the rights of minors; 16 percent said it should be a state function, according to the survey, conducted by the VTsIOM state-run polling organization.

In comparison with western countries, where parents regularly lose custody of their children over seemingly minor offenses, Russians don’t appear to want a nanny state monitoring their parenting skills.

A hefty 71 percent of Russians said they were against children’s rights taking precedent over those of their parents, while 60 percent said minors should not be allowed to take action against their parents in the courts, according to the survey.

By way of example, an American woman in June 2011 lost custody of her children after spanking her 2-year- old daughter. Prosecutors said Rosalina Gonzales spanked her child with an open hand and left red marks.

She was charged with 'felony injury to a child' after the child's grandmother issued a complaint a police.

Gonzales, sentenced to five years’ probation, was ordered to take parenting classes and to regain custody of her children.

The Russian Orthodox Church says parents should have a free hand in raising their children.

“The state has no right to interfere into family lives except for cases when there’s a proved danger to life, health and morality of a child,” it said in a resolution approved by Sacred Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church earlier this month.

The state should interfere as a last resort when the situation “cannot be eliminated through providing help to parents and using persuasion methods,” it added.

Last week, the Church’s Synod in Moscow criticized the possibility of low-income families losing custody of their children in situations where they could potentially no longer afford to support large numbers of children.

The survey showed 74 percent of respondents were against criminal prosecution of parents who leave their children unattended.

To illustrate the challenges facing individuals who are uprooted from their native cultures, a Russian executive and his wife made headlines in 1997 when they left their 4-year-old daughter at home in their Upper East Side apartment while they left for the evening. The couple, who explained to police it was customary to leave children home alone in Russia, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Their child was taken into custody by the Administration for Children's Services.

The survey questioned 1,600 people in 46 regions, with a margin of error not higher than 3.4 percent.

Slavix replied to my earlier post:  "Of course it was not just two people it was done by the people at the very top who wanted to 'privatize' all the wealth of Soviet Union. Gorby and Eltsin were just at the top of the groups of fifth column agents that were brought to power by design and with western intelligence agencies involvment. Gorby with his people actively sabotaged USSR."      Again, this does not absolve the Russian society and populace at large of their culpability in the disaster that was perpetrated. This basically means that, in effect, the Soviet state allowed cliques of utterly treasonous fifth-columnist agents to not only infiltrate it and rise to top positions; but also to completely HIJACK the power of that state and use it to SELF-DESTRUCT that same state from WITHIN! How could something like this have happened, in a truly healthy state? And what about the mass of the Russian/Soviet population, the patriotic military, and all the millions of non-fifth-column people working at all levels of the state apparatus, who had been educated in the Soviet state and supposedly inculcated with its ideals and values - how could THEY allow this sellout to happen in a heartbeat, right before their eyes? Why didn't THEY do something about it?      Also, note that "globalism", although a corrosive force everywhere, does NOT affect all countries equally or in the same way. "Globalist" control of the media and economy, etc., for example, ALWAYS seems to work in favor of the controlling elites of the U.S., Britain, Saudi Arabia, Israel and a handful of others, while ALWAYS working against the national interests of, say, Russia, China, Serbia, Iraq - and pretty much the rest of the world! The mis-named "globalism" is not some kind of natural force that influences everybody indiscrim inately and neutrally - it's just another name for an updated, mutated, especially vicious and aggressive Anglo-Ju dean imperialism lead by the Amerikkan Empire...

Russian society in general had a lot to do with this situation arising at all. How could two people, no matter what "position" they occupied, betray a huge, powerful nation thus and bring it to its knees and destroy its sovereignty, if that nation hadn't been "ready to be betrayed" in the first place? If Russia had been a truly mentally robust and healthy nation in the second half of the last century, these two men would have been stopped and eliminated somewhere along the way!
Of course it was not just two people it was done by the people at the very top who wanted to 'privatize' all the wealth of Soviet Union. Gorby and Eltsin were just at the top of the groups of fifth column agents that were brought to power by design and with western intelligence agencies involvment. Gorby with his people actively sabotaged USSR.

Most of the planet is under illusions perpetraid by elites through control of the media. Population in USSR was betraid by the people at the very top, people were fed the whole 'hope and change' message of the day 'perestroyka' promised lots of 'democracy' and their country was stolen and destroyed without people realizing what is happening. I don't know what country you are from but I am sure your country is just as occupied by globalists or more so. Russia can not be defeated militarily, but has been betraid and destroyed from within twice only in the 20th century. Globalist control over media is alomost total with even media funded by Russian taxes is used for anti-Russian and anti-Soviet propaganda, pro-western propaganda is all over Russia's media including on RT to a lesser extent. Battle for Russia is ongoing and will only get hotter with coming years. But this battle should be seen in the context of the global struggle between globalist NWO forces and peoples of different countries resisting.

The struggle for Russia's sovereignty is ongoing."      I DO realize that; and I despise the whole situation. But I also think that the psychological weaknesses and defects of the Russian society in general had a lot to do with this situation arising at all. How could two people, no matter what "position" they occupied, betray a huge, powerful nation thus and bring it to its knees and destroy its sovereignty, if that nation hadn't been "ready to be betrayed" in the first place?
