Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, takes issue with article by US Senators (RIA Novosti / Vladimir Fedorenko)

Vladimir Zhirinovsky has labeled calls by US senators demanding Barack Obama directly support the Syrian opposition “absolutely unacceptable,” saying his party would demand a Russian response.

In an op-ed piece that appeared this week in The Washington Post, three influential senators called on the Obama administration to “directly and openly provide robust assistance to the armed opposition, including weapons, intelligence and training.”

Senators John McCain, Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham employed rather loose logic when they argued that by sitting on the sidelines of the Syrian battle, “we are jeopardizing both our national security interests and our moral standing in the world.”

The leader of Russia’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) and its parliamentary faction, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, described the article as a call for "violently toppling the current government in Syria, which included the use of aviation and other US assets."

"If President Obama…follows the advice of Congress and acknowledges the need for armed support for the Syrian insurgents, the situation will become irreversible," he said, as quoted by the LDPR press service.

In the event of US military intervention in Syria, Zhirinovsky warned that "Syria will follow the fate of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and other countries, whose sovereignty remains a status only on paper today."

Although his party is opposed to outside military interference in the affairs of independent states, “if the US senators' calls for supporting the Syrian opposition 'with fire and sword' are put into practice, the Liberal Democratic Party will insist on a Russian response.”

“If the Republican senators succeed in persuading the US president (to provide military support to the Syrian rebels), we (LDPR) will demand that the Russian leadership openly side with the Syrian government,” the firebrand Russian politician added.

Meanwhile, Zhirinovsky believes there is no real opposition in Syria, rather international terrorists are acting there.

"Gangs of armed terrorists are acting in Syria under the guise of opposition status,” he said. “It is they whom Senator McCain says should be supported."

Zhirinovsky stressed that "Russia should support the legitimate Syrian authorities, be it [President] Bashar al-Assad or his successor, elected according to the will of the Syrian people.”

The government of President Assad has been struggling for over a year to prevail against armed rebels who seek to bring down the government.

Moscow has called on the West not to take sides in the conflict.

If  America sides with the rebels, then Russia should side with the Assad gvt? All these ppl in power, and those who are in opposition should be relegated to junk status. Making a statement like a that simply to bolster election promises. The first failure of an over zealous politician is that they buys into the con that government can affect change. Hence, they are either deluded, or are part of the deception. Of course nothing will come out of this sable rattling. It's all a show meant to induce fear and galvanise the disenfranchised. Time to switch on to another channel where the real power resides. Because these crackers are merely employed to keep us fixated on a never changing picture. Reminds me if the never ending story. The premise is wrong, the execution is flawed, the results are mired and at the end of the day, we don't give a hoot.

The U.S.A. plans to attack Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and now Syria were created many years before George Bush became president and now Obama is finishing the preplanned wars of imperialism and new era colonialism and neo-colonialism. These wars are to encircle and attack Iran and then China. The events of September 11, 2001 were the catalyst and excuse needed to initiate the pre-planned wars. The U.S.A. history is very similar to ancient Rome. The Romans attacks every neighboring nations and enslaving the citizens, stealing the natural resources, taking the inventions back to Rome and claiming knowledge and information from those conquered nations as their own. When Rome ran out of nations to invade and plunder it eventually imploded withering into the dustbin of history. The U.S.A is following that same path after having become immensely rich and powerful from 350 years of free slave labor, extermination and genocide of the original inhabitants and colonizing nation after nation in the name of democracy, and liberty. Over 3,000,000 Koreans and and the same number of Viet Namese were killed during those wars, and millions have been killed and wounded in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Lebanon, Syria and Iran from US.A. interference or invasion. The kleptocrats and oligarchs in Washington D.C., London, Paris and Tel Aviv are the true "axis of evil" on this planet and will not be happy until they have started World War III.
for all these people  have to "thanks" to djews
