New Afghani elections hopeless?

There is no reason to believe that the second round of Afghani presidential elections will be any fairer than the previous one three months ago, said Gilles Dorronsoro, Carnegie Endowment visiting scholar.
“The logistical side is going to be a nightmare, as in some places in Afghanistan it is already very cold. The Taliban is even stronger than three months ago and I don’t see where you can easily find international observers,” he said.
Meanwhile, preparations for a second round of presidential elections are in full swing in Afghanistan.
Washington says a power-sharing deal between the main rivals, Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, could be in the cards.
