Almost a half of all Russians are against foreign intervention into the Syrian crisis. However, the majority of the population support neither side of the conflict, polls have revealed.

Some 49 per cent of respondents would not want the events in Syria to develop according to the Libyan scenario and oppose a foreign military operation in the Arab Republic, pollsters from independent Levada Center found.

At the same time, 18 per cent of Russians believe foreign interference would be justified if it helped to protect civilians. A third of those questioned, though, remain undecided, sociologists told Interfax on Friday.

Only 14 per cent of citizens believe that Russia should support sanctions against Syria proposed by Western countries. Twenty-nine per cent insist that that Moscow should rather support Damascus or simply refrain from interfering into the situation at all (28 per cent).

Meanwhile, a survey by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) revealed that slightly less than a half of those sampled think that the conflict in Syria is a result of provocation by outside players who seek greater influence in the region. Only about one fifth of respondents are confident that the unrest was caused by public rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

As for Russians’ opinion about the conflicting sides, 14 per cent said they support the government, while 11 per cent favor the opposition. However, 57 per cent have no position on either of them.

The pollsters also found that 44 per cent of Russians regularly, or at least once in a while, keep an eye on the Syrian crisis. More than a half of the respondents confessed they are not interested in the Syrian events at all.

I am really grateful that I had found a media that I can trust in observing event occurring around the world today esp, the conflict in Syria. I had followed other major media sponsored by the West but they seem to be telling lies. I am connected with friends in Syria, they told me different stories against the stories in the western media. After following RT, I found that the stories published by RT are more accurate complying to my friends' stories in Syria and that I confirm that the stories from RT are reliable and truthful. Thanks to RT for airing the news around the world, intercepting the lies and slanders that had been massively aired by the Western media. Keep up the good work, your viewers are from readers who like to know the truth of what happening in the world today. You are awesome, I love you RT. Best regards.

Russia and China along with their allies faithful allies, Iran, Venezuela, Pakistan, Indonesia and the NAM (Non-Allies Members) should intervene in the world crisis and conflicts occurring massively in the Arab & North African region, esp Syria now, in order to act as balancing power against the hypocrite policy of US and the west along with their allies. Since the 9/11, one after another, crises had been created within the Islamic countries weakening them giving Israel the opportunity to expand its territory as the Arabs & the world are busy with the crisis in the Middle East. Action should be taken against US & its allies for supporting the rebels in Syria that had lead the situation worsened. While Syrian government is the victim of massive propaganda by major western media to penalize the President for massacre, perhaps, we knew that the massacre was done by rebels under the directive of US & its allies.

Russia Must Save itself. Prepare for NATO war in Tajkistan (unregistered) 29.07.2012 23:26

WHY DON'T  THE IRANIANS HEL P SYRIA?

The Syrians and Iranians have done NOTHING to help Eastern Europeans under Sunni / NATO assault. Until the Shia Muslims actually stand up and help Eastern Christians fight the blitzkrieg  of the NATO / Saudi American / Zionist axis..... they are not worthy of Russian help.
