"Russia clearly reached a consensus within the Security Council in both supporting, crafting and passing the recent sanctions resolution,” State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said at a daily briefing.
“I think this is just indicative of the cooperation – and shared perspective – that the United States and Russia have reached on this issue based on the extensive dialogue that the presidents have had, the secretaries of state and foreign ministers have had, the defense officials have had over many, many months,” stated Crowley while commenting on Dmitry Medvedev’s recent statements.
He also said that he did not think there “has been a great deal of daylight” between the American and Russian stances.
“We have the same concerns about the threat that an unchecked Iranian program poses to the region. Russia has a special concern because it sits directly adjacent to that neighborhood,” Crowley added.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs also had his say on Medvedev’s statements.
“I believe that his comments demonstrate an international consensus and unity of purpose within the international community in addressing Iran and its illicit nuclear weapons program,” said Gibbs, according to the official website.
He went on to say that with the help of Russia and China, “we have instituted the strongest sanctions ever placed on Iran – sanctions that will have bite and that will greatly complicate their ability to do business around the world, and have a real impact on Iran’s ability to pursue this type of capability. So, again, I think it demonstrates the progress that we’ve made internationally in bringing along a community of nations, as well as taking concrete steps to make it more difficult.”
"We will continue to ratchet that up until we see the type of progress that we need to," concluded Gibbs.

Russian's leaders are acting the same way like underdeveloped. countries's leaders (western puppets). While don't change their mind, absolutely nothing they do can benefit Russia. I think the problem here is the old practice in Russia, the constant corruption emerge from oligarchies . I'm sure western countries are laughing of russian innocence and naivety. Unfortunately the actions and ways taken about the country's modernization are destined to fail.
I agree with Srbin, Kihnu, and Paul. Russia is making HUGE mistake and will receive NOTHING in return for cooperating with USA. Absolutely nothing. Obama is in office, but foreign policy has remained unchanged. The European missile defense is now more complex and threatening, Georgia is still being rearmed and supported by US and Israel. They are changing Russia's stance on Iran which has NEVER pestered the caucus regions unlike US, UK, Israel and Saudi Arabia. Iran is closer and more cooperative with Russia. We actually have the Samand cars here and other Iranian products. They are observers in the SCO, trying to become members. Russia has backstabbed this historical nation (which hasn't invaded another in recent history, unlike all the nations threatening Iran). Are they pursuing nuclear weapons? MAYBE!!! I would if I were them, they are literally surrounded by US military bases. Look at a map and you'll see US has them surrounded, plus they have carrier groups antagonizing them 24/7. US has been drumming on about invading Iran literally for years and of course now people in the Western world, hearing this now think it is good. Iran's domestic problems were directly from the CIA = NGO groups, Green Revolution, Nada, and English banners. Bush is on video stating the CIA went into Iran. It failed. Russia is being absolutely pathetic!!!! I disapprove of our President's foreign policy in terms of Western bowing. I have no problems with doing business, but changing our bilateral relations just to suite the tastes of another nation is absolutely sickening and a HUGE sign of weakness. These actions leave a nation with no friends at all.

TO : Jon Lester If you give me 5 million US dollars, you are welcome to kidnap me too! Obviously, his conscience was getting to him, this is the real reason why he went home. That and the Iranian government had threaten to kill his family. Try to look at the whole picture when it comes to the Iranian nuclear scientist's situation. Please stop watching FOX News. It's not really fair and balanced.
