I am a born native of New York City AND a fan of Russia and Russian Culture! I feel though that any "negativity" that comes from Russia is always viewed as an extremely unpleasant choice. Throughout my life living here in New York... I have never recieved good-news about Russia and I do not know why? I thought this would've been put to past. However, New York City is home to America's most largest gay community. They are very sensitive people. Any minority group is highly sensitive when they witness their own group undergo "Discrimination" which includes but does not limit to: Blacks, Hispanics, Homosexuals, Poor, or Fat people. As a 25 year old New Yorker who lives in a community with a large gay population ... I personally feel that an individual's sexuality should be kept confidential. The United States Army is going through a similar problem. President Obama wants to over-rule the "Don't ask, dont tell" policy for our army. I have often observed that when people display their sexuality to the world... They are often promoting homosexuality to all... In front of the children and all. I am not telling the world I am heterosexual. The don't need to know who I am sleeping with. Whatever, Russia decides what is best in the future... I am all for it. I just don't think that people should tell the world they are gay nor do I feel religious leaders should condemn people for being a homosexual. Although I don't think churches should be obligated to encourage gay marriage. It is their church and they are entitled to do whatever pleases their own church. The gay people should just start making their own churches or use "Civil Unions" to make their partnership a possibility. I am a Female from New York and I do NOT support gay marriage. Just Civil Unions...

Veronica, you are a very balanced person. You raise the key issues of self determinancy of cultures, and freedom from postive pressure from those promoting their sexuality. Russia, does need to decide itself in terms of where it wants to go, it is its right, it is as simple as that. The ones who argue otherwise, are expecting Russia to foist their external views on the Russian population. These are the same ones arguing about totalitarianism, when hypocriticaly they want to have a totalitarian sexual mandate on the Russian people, irrespective of the Russian peoples views. I also like you point regarding promotion, indeed to be equal, you would think, they would be happy to have the same rights as heterosexual couples. However, the reality is often that they want to promote Gay practices above heterosexual practice. I am a firm believer is self determinancy, and have great respect for my fellow Russians views. I don't at all subscribe to the view, that one part of the world does one thing, so all others should follow. Indeed, as in any marketing, I see great merit in countries differentiating in their moral atmospheres, and letting the people decide with their feet, where they want to live. This is part of a diverse cultural world, which is essential to avoid a common mode societal failure. Your views are your views, and that is the most precious thing of all. Let us respect our differences, and let people find their home.
