Russian tennis star Vera Zvonareva has failed to win the biggest match of her career, losing to Venus Williams in the final of the season-ending WTA Championships in Doha.

It had been a fine effort by the Russian just to get to this far and she made a promising start when she took the opening set on a tie-break.

However, Williams destroyed Zvonareva’s serve in the second set, winning 6-0. The American pressed further, completing the third and final set 6-2, ending Zvonareva’s chance at the WTA title.
