President sacks troubled Russian region’s ineffective government

The president of the Russian republic of Ingushetia has dismissed his government for not doing its job properly.
Yunus-Bek Yevkurov ordered the regional government’s resignation on Monday and appointed the head of Ingush Security Council as acting chair of the government. Aleksey Vorobyov will head the current cabinet instead of Rashid Gaisanov until a new one is formed.
The reason for the move was due to “the unsatisfactory work of the cabinet, in particular in the socio-economic sphere,” a presidential spokesman told RIA Novosti news agency.
The move didn’t come out of the blue. In August, after recovering from wounds suffered in an attempted assassination, Yevkurov fired several members of the government and his administration, including a vice prime minister. He said the officials “were dragging their feet” while he was unfit to do his job and announced that more changes were coming.
Ingushetia in Russia's south is a volatile region with regular reports of militants attacking officials – including policemen and prosecutors – coming from the area. Authorities blame the lack of job opportunities, as well as widespread corruption, for fueling extremist violence.
