Iraq’s Hell on Earth, IDF soldiers against occupation & World protests against Israel

In this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin reports on the thousands of activists in cities around the world who are protesting against continued Israeli aggression in Gaza, highlighting demonstrators in Paris who were met with gas and rubber bullets after a French ban on pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Abby then reports on the 5,500 Iraqi civilians killed in the first 6 months of 2014, and speaks with journalist and author, Dahr Jamail, about his recent article on events which have unfolded since the US withdrawal, a situation that has led to Iraq becoming a near failed state. Abby goes on to talk with Suha Najjar, a resident of Gaza City. They discuss the horrors of daily life on the ground in Gaza since Israel’s latest offensive and debunks the ‘human shield’ rhetoric often heard from the IDF when justifying indiscriminate killings of civilians. BTS wraps up the show with an interview with Avner Gvaryahu, a member of ‘Breaking the Silence’ an organization made up of veteran Israeli soldiers that seeks to educate people on the counterproductive effects of the continued Israeli occupation of Palestine.
