A Palestinian state should grow out of negotiations with Israel, believes OSCE Representative on Combating Anti-Semitism Rabbi Andrew Baker.

“A Palestinian state should come out of direct negotiations between the Palestinian authority and the state of Israel. I hope that happens at some point soon, but I think that is the way the state of Palestine should emerge, not by some recognition or decree from outside,” he said.

Rabbi Andrew Baker believes that ongoing tensions in the Middle East may trigger anti-Semitic events globally.

“At the very least, we can certainly demonstrate that conflicts in the Middle East may trigger anti-Semitic events elsewhere, and particularly in Europe, Western Europe, where you have growing Arab and Muslim communities,” he said.

I cannot be alone in finding Mr Baker utterly unconvincing: why does an immediately and totally relevant interview about the Middle East situation almost invariably quickly revert to a discussion about anti-Semitism - is this a blatant attempt to silence further discussion and criticism of the appalling present treatment of Palestinians in Gaza, and the theft of their homes and land in 1947?
Surely Mr Baker as an American Zionist is too interested a party to the dispute to be labelled an impartial expert on anti-Semitism in Europe?
I wouldn't bother further with your ugly censorship - we both know the digits entered were correct each time.

It is always great to see an intelligent interviewer BUT it is doubly great to see a beautiful AND intelligent interviewer like Ms. Sophie Shevardnadze! ; I have seen a few interviews conducted by Ms. Shevardnadze and I enjoyed almost all of them. Rabbi Andrew Baker handled himself very well and made some very cogent points but if I had the opportunity to ask him a question it would be this: The finance industry & the subprime crisis show that there are a disproportionate number of Jewish people who are involved in Finance, Investment Banking, Merchant Banking & so on. Apart from the historical reasons for the conflict in the Middle East, I have often wondered whether there is a force of Jealousy against the Jewish people simply because they are so good at making money?!?! Does anyone think the way I do?
